Smart Water Maintenance

The home will use a system that filters out and removes impurities such as scale from the home’s water supply. Because of this, the tankless hot water and recirculating systems will be able to experience a longer lifespan.

The water storage supply system is also being designed to maximize efficiency, simply by changing its location. The storage tank will be installed in the attic to boost the water’s temperature without relying on expensive recirculation technology.

“The water is coming out of the ground in the mid-50s, so why not put the tank in the attic to let the temperature get to mid-70s. And then, feed it into the hot water heater to get a 20-degree boost for free.” says Winston.

A heat exchanger, coupled with the shower’s drain water and the hot water line, will also provide a few degrees of free temperature. A free boost of hot water helps reduce system use, which will help to further increase lifespan and reduce energy costs in this concept home
