Homeowners can integrate lighting, security systems and indoor/outdoor audio systems without sacrificing interior design.

Two Sarasota, Fla. homeowners are using technology to turn their waterfront house into a smart home that highlights their love of art, wine and entertaining.

The homeowners contacted Mark van den Broek of SmartHouse Integration to install an automation system to serve as the backbone of their 17,000-square-foot home. Van den Broek used an Elan Entertainment and Control System to serve as the home’s central hub. It includes eight Elan 7-inch in-wall touch panels, four smaller touch panels and three Elan HR2 remotes.

With its high-tech features, this project won three 2016 Mark of Excellence Awards.

Van den Broek stayed away from harsh hues typically found in art galleries and instead strategically placed lights under each piece. The lights’ intensity is automated to increase and fade throughout the day to maintain a gallery-like atmosphere.

“When the sun begins to set, the lights slowly ramp up, incrementally highlighting the art as the sunlight continues to fade,” says van den Broek. “It’s a truly stunning effect.”
