DEVELOPING: Expect Big News from Apple’s Event Tomorrow

Apple plans to announce a new iPhone, Apple Watch and more–including HomeKit news–during its keynote event tomorrow.

Apple’s keynote will begin at 10 a.m. PDT on September 7, putting an end to months of speculation surrounding a variety of new products and updates. Most notably, this includes the iPhone 7, which Apple is rumored to have removed the headphone jack, added a DSLR-quality camera lens system and upgraded its battery/memory storage. We can also expect the reveal of the Apple Watch 2.

However, most significant to the TecHome industry will be the revelation of further details surrounding Apple Home and its HomeKit app that comes with the iOS 9 update. The site for HomeKit is already live and teases an abundance of attractive features.

HomeKit will allow users to set scenes using lights, locks, shades and more. Apple also has its eye on competing with industry leader, Amazon Alexa, in terms of voice control, as HomeKit allows everything to be controlled via Siri.

A fair amount of smart home devices have already been announced that are HomeKit compatible, including Philips Hue, Lutron, Canary, ecobee, Schlage and Drop Kitchen.

Apple has also partnered with major developers in the industry to include HomeKit as standard in new homes.
