HRVs are best for colder climates.

Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV) harnesses the heat from inside the home and then transfers it to incoming fresh air from the outside.

Since HRVs trap the home’s heat to operate, these ventilation systems are best suited for colder climates with excess humidity during the heating season.

HRVs also work significantly better than ERVs in smaller residential settings, but ultimately the level of humidity and average climate plays a larger role in builder’s choice.
