Outdoor, Efficient Tech Shine at Exclusive Builder Event

Lennar and Savannah Home Builders struck by InMotion, Seura on TecHome Builder Summits’ show floor.

Outdoor and energy efficient technologies grab the attention of builder guests at this year’s exclusive TecHome Builder Summits in Fort Worth.

The event that just wrapped gave 200+ top-notch high-volume, luxury and multifamily builders the opportunity to meet with more than a hundred home technology companies and hear from dozens of industry experts on the latest trends.

“I think there’s a lot of great tech we can adopt into our homes with the synergies they offer. It’s amazing. I’m just trying to ingest all that I’ve learned. There’s a lot of great companies here,” says Dennis Jaglinski, regional purchasing manager at Lennar Homes.

The national production builder hasn’t worked with some of the technologies featured at the event such as solar, woman-focused and tiny homes, but Jaglinski says he has been inspired to bring these concepts back to executives.

“We aren’t doing tiny homes, but we are trying to reach the Millennial buyer, so it is great to get that perspective,” Jaglinski says of Wind River Tiny Homes’ take on efficiency and appealing to distinct demographics.

“Social media has helped us with the Millennial, but there’s so much more we can do,” says Jaglinski, who shares a similar opinion to other builders at the event wanting to bring innovative ideas back to their companies.

“Now that sliding doors are so popular, and they can be motorized, that’s a really cool technology,” says Paul Nieves of Savannah Home Builders.

The custom homebuilder is referring to InMotion, a company that specializes in automated doors for the indoor/outdoor trend, which Nieves says he would utilize in his $1.5 million and above residential projects.

Seura Outdoor TV
Builders believe more customers are becoming interested in outdoor TVs.

InMotion is just one of several companies included in what Nieves calls numerous pages of notes he took at the event. Smart lock company Schlage and outdoor TVs by Seura also made the cut, as the Texas builder looks to innovate his outdoor spaces.

“I think it’s more about displaying these TVs and showing other customers they want it, too,” Nieves says. “All I have to do is sell one, one time, and then other customers want it too.”

Much like Jaglinski, Nieves was also struck by efficiency options at the TecHome Builder Summits such as Panasonic’s fresh air intake systems.

“Eighty percent of my clients are doctors, so the healthy home is an easy one to sell to them,” Nieves says. “I just say, ‘You want hospital quality air? We can do it here.’”

It is interesting to note that in two very different builder markets—high-volume and luxury—these builder guests were attracted to similar trends, while also having a lot to learn from each other. This is why TecHome Builder decided to bring these segments together, along with multifamily, for the first time ever.

It has been such a success, we will do it again next year in Phoenix, Arizona. Stay tuned for ways to apply to the exclusive event, which is December 4 to 6 at the Phoenix Convention Center.
