Solar City to Release “Ultra-Efficient” Solar Panel

Solar City’s solar panels are about to get a lot more efficient, indicating an increased interest in rooftop solar for home energy needs.

Solar City has unveiled a new solar panel design with module efficiency just over 22 percent according to GreenTech Media. Module efficiency measures the percentage of power generated from light.

The solar panel design was tested and certified by the Renewable Energy Test Center and was efficient enough to top SunPower’s long-standing efficiency record of 21.5 percent.

The key to success with these new panels is in the merging of two standard panel designs to increase power by 30 percent without increasing the panel’s size.

Solar City will begin distributing the efficient panels later this month, with production plans between 9,000 and 10,000 panels per day.

The company is claiming that these new solar panels will be the world’s most efficient rooftop solar panels, and this is good news for builders with energy conscious clients.
