Hundreds of high-volume, multifamily and luxury homebuilders gather to update their strategies and incorporate an increasingly broad assortment of technologies into their offers.
The 2018 Summit was the largest and most successful in its five-year history, with 251 high-volume, multifamily and luxury builders joining together at the Phoenix Convention Center from Dec. 5-7 for vendor engagement, best practice sharing and visioning of an increasingly bright and broad future of the TecHome. Builder guests represented 175 unique companies, $87.3 billion in aggregate annual revenue and 252,000 homes built in 2018. Aggregate revenues represented by guests grew an astounding $23.4 billion, or 37 percent, vs. 2017!
The high-volume segment was the largest of the three at the Summit with 121 guests from 74 different companies. With a total revenue of $74.9 billion, the average company revenue represented within that segment was more than $1 billion and each averaged 2,185 homes built last year.
The luxury builder audience remained as enthusiastic as ever about the event. Of the 59 guests, two-thirds had returned after attending a previous AE Ventures event. Those attendees, from 53 different companies, represented $574.3 million in aggregate revenue. They built a total of 640 custom homes in 2018.
The multifamily segment showed the largest percentage growth in attendance year over year. The 71 multifamily guests represented a 39 percent audience size increase over 2017. Those attendees, from 48 companies, built 89,707 units last year for a total revenue of $11.8 billion.
The guests each participated in a program dedicated specifically to their segment. That included meeting with relevant manufacturers, participating in study groups with peers and learning from industry experts in general sessions on topics such as the hottest tech products and trends, energy efficiency and research into the tech wants of homebuyers.
That content was highlighted by the keynote address: The 2020 TecHome Vision. For the second year, BDX president Tim Costello delivered the keynote, which excited and inspired guests and sponsors alike.
Here is just some of what guests had to say about the 2018 Summit:
“Fantastic! Really enjoyed my first one and hope to make it back for more! Enjoyed the brainstorming and new ideas that came up from discussions and vendor presentations.”
“I appreciated the organization! The one-on-one meetings at the booths were a great way to talk to several vendors I might not have talked to otherwise. The organization of the whole event made it enjoyable and really educational.”
“Well organized event. Interesting and informative speakers. TecHome is great environment to meet builders and new vendors from around the country.”
“Well run, every time I go, I come back to the office energized and ready to tackle the world. Why not share this experience with others!”
“One of the best thought-out, well run and fun conferences I have attended.”
“The quality and relevance of the tech products and networking opportunities are fantastic! Keep up the great work!”
“Great opportunity to see availability of products in the industry, what is going on in different areas of the country outside of our own and to discuss with others the challenges we face on a daily basis and how we can better approach them.”
The 2018 Summit also featured the largest number of sponsoring companies the event has ever seen. There were 123 vendors representing the best in all areas of the TecHome, including home automation, electronics/AV, security, lighting & electrical, kitchen/bath/laundry tech, smart HVAC/IAQ, smart water, smart building products and business solutions.
These companies invested in more than a dozen general session presentations to large groups, 154 small group boardroom presentations and nearly 3,000 one-on-one meetings. The scheduled and guaranteed aspect of these engagements is what separates the TecHome Builder Summit from other industry events and provides a clear return on investment.
The responses from these manufacturers left no doubt that their sponsorships were more than worthwhile:
“Great concept, especially with the executive pass. The meetings are engaging, and the opportunities are huge.”
“The one-on-ones and boardrooms make it so much more productive than a traditional trade show. Much easier to measure ROI of the trip as well.”
“Great way to secure meetings with decision makers (one-on-one), as well as get our message to multiple builders (boardrooms).”
“I would certainly recommend it to any companies that are marketing products or services into this market.”
“The format works very well, and the quality of meetings was very good. Very impressed as a first-year participant.”
“We were able to meet with several potential customers with one significant stop rather than chasing all over the U.S. to find them.”
The 2019 TecHome Builder Summit will be held Dec. 9-11 at the Gaylord National Convention Center in National Harbor, Md.
